Today was daylight savings time. This has always been a favorite day of mine, because it means several things. First, it will be light when I get home every day. Second, and more importantly, it’s an indicator that winter is coming to a close, and spring is almost here. This is very exciting, but it’s also a reminder that if I’m not training now, I will not be fit and prepared when spring and summer get here. If I don’t train now, I won’t be able to perform when I need to.
In the same way, a lot of you have things you need to prepare for. Tryouts are coming up pretty soon, and you need to get ready so you’ll be at your best in the spring. Now it’s pretty easy to look at the calendar and tell yourself that you don’t need to start training now, because tryouts are still a month or two away.
However, you need to remember that training and preparation take time. You can’t just start training a week before tryouts and expect to be at your best. Instead, start training now! You don’t need to jump in at 100% and spend hours and hours every day practicing, but DO SOMETHING! Get out there and start doing some individual soccer drills at home. Start running a little bit to develop your fitness. Lift some weights. Just get started!
Remember – your competition is starting to train right now, and they have one thing on their mind – beating you! When you get to tryouts, do you want to stand proud knowing that you put in all the time and effort that you could? Or are you willing to walk into practice hoping to skate by with as little preparation as possible? Are you willing to deal with the consequences if you don’t start now?
Which will you choose? Time is running out!
Just remember –
Think of the consequences if you do nothing.
