This week’s soccer motivation is about how we get stronger. The way you get stronger is by pushing yourself to the point where your muscles develop microscopic tears. Not enough to injure you, but enough to break the muscle down a little bit. That’s why you get sore after a heavy workout. Then your body builds itself back a little stronger.

Basically, you’ve got to break yourself down to build yourself back up.

Your soccer training works the same way. You do something difficult – you push yourself a little beyond what you’ve done before, and your body comes back stronger.
However, this ONLY WORKS IF YOU WORK HARD ENOUGH TO BREAK YOURSELF DOWN FIRST.

You don’t create those tears – your muscle doesn’t get stronger. You don’t push it to the edge? Your body doesn’t develop like it should.

How hard do you push in training? Do you really go to the edge, or do you get to that edge and let up?

I’ve seen it in a lot of players – they hit a wall – something they just won’t push through. Every time they hit that wall, they don’t have the mental toughness to give everything to get there. It’s their limiting point, and they won’t grow or hit their potential until they reach deep down and overcome that mental obstacle.

When you train, train hard. Work hard enough to break yourself down that little bit extra.

Do something difficult! If there’s no fear that you might fail, you aren’t pushing hard enough. When you train, take it to that edge. If you aren’t on your hands and knees after you train, sweating, trying to catch your breath – YOU AREN’T PUSHING YOURSELF

Remember – if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you
