One of the soccer skills that it is absolutely essential that every player have is the ability to take a strong shot on goal. At one point or another, every player, whether they are a striker or a defender, will have the chance to shoot on goal.

There are three steps that will help players get more power out of their shots.

The first step is the windup. This basically encompasses everything that you do lead up to taking a shot. A good windup is essential because it gets you in the proper position to hit the ball with power. As part of your wind-up, start 1-2 steps away from the ball. Take a short step with your kicking foot, then plant your other foot next to the ball.

As you plant your foot, bring your kicking foot up and back behind you. The further back you can bring your kicking foot, the more power you will get on your shot, because your foot has more time to build speed when you whip it back forward.

The second step is striking the ball in the right place with the right part of your foot. To hit the ball with power, you want to hit the ball with your laces. Using your laces, hit the ball through the middle of the ball. Don’t hit the ball on the bottom half because that will force the ball up in the air over the goal.

The last important step to hitting a soccer shot with power is to follow through. This means that when you hit the ball, don’t stop your foot. Instead, keep your foot moving all the way through the ball. A good followthrough creates more “punch” on the ball, so continue your foot movement all the way through the ball.

If you follow these three easy steps, you’ll find that you’ll start seeing more power out of your shots on goal.
